Student Project for Cologne fair ‘Handarbeit’

‘Austermann’ is the Hand Knitting Yarn section of the
Internationnaly renowned German ‘Schoeller
Sussen GmbH’ yarn spinning company and they exhibit annually at the
International trade show ‘Handarbeit’ in Cologne, Germany.
This year, in conjunction with the introduction of an
Irish Tweed yarn into their range, Austermann invited
our students to design and make a collection of garments illustrating the
creative usage of their various yarns.
This was an elective project and a selection of 2nd
year Fashion students, working in teams, designed and produced six pieces for
display. The pieces were made with a combination of hand knitting & machine
knitting techniques, using a selection of yarns from the ‘Austermann’ hand
knitting range.
The subsequent photo shoot was student led, with the
students choosing models, styling hair and makeup.
The full collection of six pieces were on exhibit on
the ‘Schoeller, Austermann’ stand at the Handarbeit fair in Cologne, Germany on
March 22/23/24th 2013.
